Artist's Comments
My entry for `Princess-of-Shadows' contest. The theme is Crow, as an animal, symbol, or feelings. Crows, especially ravens, often portrayed as harbingers of doom or death. Also, In Greek mythology, it was believed that when the crows gave bad news to Apollo, he flew into a rage, and cursed their feathers to be black. As for this lady, she was once white, pure white, but one bad news turn her black entirely, and she now brings death and bad news to those around her. Now about techniques. I tried using multi-colored shadings/highlights here, though quite subtly. But I think it helps, since almost everything on this piece is black.  And this is one of the most intricate dress I've ever drawn. Again, mostly because it's all black. Overall, I'm quite proud of this piece, since I put my heart into it and also spent a lot of time polishing it.  Done while listening to Evanescence's Lacrymosa over and over again. The picture has nothing much to with the lyrics, but it does suit the mood of the song. Especially since the song is based upon Mozart's Requiem. The word "Lacrymosa" itself litteraly translates to "tearful". I assume Lady Raven have been crying so much inside, even though she's not crying on the outside. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces.
